Plan allocation be equitably distributed among Jammu, Kashmir , Ladakh: Citizen Forum | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 19: Welcoming the plan allocation of Rs. 6600 crore for the current financial year for J&K, Citizen Forum has demanded that the same should be equitably distributed among Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions. While Jammu and Kashmir regions should get Rs. 2700 lakh each for spending on developments in the respective regions, the balance 1200 crores should be earmarked for Ladakh. In a press release issued here today, the president Citizen Forum, R K Chadha has said that Jammu region has over all three times more area than Kashmir valley, the population in two regions is the same. Hence, Jammu region should get at least equal share with Kashmir in fund allocation and spending on development projects. Commenting on the press conference of Union Tourism Minister, Subodh Kant Sahai in Srinagar yesterday, announcing tourism promotion plans by the Centre in J&K state Chadha has said that allocation of Rs 25 crore for Mubark Mandhi heritage complex in Jammu is a big joke while in the past Rs 250 crore have been sanctioned by the Centre for cleaning and development of Dal Lake in Srinagar, and Rs 400 crore have been sanctioned for Wullar Lake in Kashmir. Besides billions of rupees are sanctioned and spent on tourism project in Kashmir, Jammu tourism gets a raw deal by allocation of paltry sums and spending still less, he added. The forum has reiterated its demand of separate allocation of Central funds on tourism projects and promotion as well as the project in other sector, for all the three regions of the state. Chadha has demanded the Tourism Minister to spell out the total spending on creating tourism infrastructure and promotion in Kashmir and that inJammu, during last two decades. The state govt should come out with a white paper on spending on tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir separately, giving details of infrastructure, including way side facilities setup on the highway between Lakhanpur and Banihal and from Banihal to Baramullah and other places in Kashmir valley, Citizen Forum has demanded.
