Free Medical Camp conducted at Channi Prat, Sunderbani

JAMMU, June 19:

Shanti Path Trust (SPT), Trikuta Nagar, Jammu in association with Indian Red Cross Society Jammu Region, J&K State AIDS Control Society and BMO Sunderbani, conducted a free medical camp at Channi Prat, Tehsil Sunderbani.
This is a remote area five kilometres in interior from the main highway, comprising of four panchayats viz, Channi, Prat, Marchola and Hathal, deprived of basic medical facilities. The camp was welcome by the locals and one thousand ninety people took advantage of this camp.
The team of doctors and staff included Dr D P Sharma, Dr Puran Nayyer, Dr N N Dogra from Jammu, Dr Shikha Dwivedi, Deepika Thakur, Radhika and Dur Drishti from J&K State AIDS Control Society, Dr Suresh Kapahi, Dr Jyoti Mahtora and Harminder Singh Lab Tech from BMO Sunder Bani, Kuldip Bhat and Surinder Vermani from Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region.
Specialties covered during the camp included Gynaecology, Eye, Dentistry, Physicians, various blood tests, Physiotherapy and AIDS awareness.
Deepika Thakur Dy Dir IEC, Radhika, Dur Drishti were fully engrossed to educate masses on AIDS awareness, its consequences, prevention and finally treatment. An exhibition of IEC materials on AIDS was also put up in the camp. Surinder Vermani along with Harminder Singh lab techs carried out blood tests viz, Hb for two hundred forty six and blood sugar for one hundred patients. One hundred and seventy two patients took advantage of eye specialist, out of which fifteen cases of cataract were identified for operation, which are being organized on 21st June 2011 at GMC Jammu.
Shanti Path Trust in addition to facilitating various formalities at GMC, also pays to and fro bus fare to the patients/their helpers, organizes in hospital and post operative care like dark glasses/medicines etc, since most of patients are very poor and come from remote villages.
Free medicines as per the prescription of doctors were provided to all the patients. Relief materials viz family kits and kitchen kits were distributed on behalf of Anil K Padha, Hony Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society to the deserving and poor people. A free Langer was also organized by Shanti Path Trust at camp site for all the patients.
