Afraid of growing public resentment separatist leaders change their tune and tenor | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 19: As militancy is on wane in Kashmir and people have shown their resentment against the daily strikes and bandhs in Valley which has destroyed its economy completely, faring a backlash the separatist leaders have downed their tune completely. According to sources, the people in Kashmir have come to understand that terrorism is no solution to any problem and 22 year long turmoil has led them to nowhere except the large scale destruction and devastation. This is the reason that this time the civil society of Kashmir has sent a right signal to the separatist leadership to restrain from giving bandh and strike calls keeping in view the interests of masses in general. The sources said that civil society of Kashmir has made it clear to the separatist leaders that they will not allow anyone to take the masses to ransom this time again by giving strike calls and force the youth to indulge in stone pelting. They have made it clear to the separatist leadership that civil society will be forced to revolt in case the separatists give a call for strikes and bandhs. Sources said people in Valley in general are neither with Pakistan nor Azadi but it is only the maladministration and mis- governance over the years that has led to present mess in Kashmir. The growing corruption in the state has been the main cause of concern among the masses in the Valley. The redressal of peoples grievances for years together and failure of those at helm of affairs to dispensate justice has been a cause of disenchantment among the general public in valley, sources added. Had the successive Governments in valley been sensitive to people problems and engaged themselves in redressing their grievances the situation would have been altogether different in Kashmir, sources said, adding it is the only the administrative malpractices which led to the present crisis in Kashmir. If Government takes corrective measures to arrest corruption, dispensate justice and settle the peoples grievances the people in Valley will not pay any heed to separatists and militants call. Not to speak of Pakistan, Kashmiris are not with Azadi also but it is only due to the failure of the government to redress their grievances which led to mass uprising in Kashmir for years together. And the separatists and militants have exploited this sentiment and diverted them to indulge in anti India movement, said Ghulam Ahmed Kuchai, a social activist. Admitting that the problems of corruption are also in other parts of the country but the situation is different in Kashmir as it is the sensitive part of the country, he said, adding in Kashmir the separatists and militant leaders are exploiting the situation to their advantage. However the situation has changed for better in the Valley now with people not ready to give any thought to separatists calls, he said, adding this changing scenario has added to desperation of terrorists. Mohammed Razan Gojri a trade unionist said that seeing the changing wind in Kashmir the separatists have also decided not to go against the general public opinion and they are making statements day in and day out which suit the peoples mood. The sudden change in the statements of separatists can't be seen a change in their mind set but only a compulsion that they are facing a growing public resentment against them for putting the masses to grave trouble during last 22 years of turmoil, he added. |
