BJP Working Committee talks harsh on cross voting | Prof Gupta says panel left with 'pigmies' | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 19: The two day BJP state working committee meeting may well have concluded with adoption of political resolutions, resolutions on corruption and price rise- the decisions taken traditionally in such forums but these have all been 'undermined and understated' by the expelled leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta contending the issues were not taken up in a serious manner nor would people accept any under the given circumstances the party is faced with. Prof Gupta also said the working committee carried no weight as it was left with only 'pigmies' most of whom have vested interests. Prof Gupta who was first suspended for his alleged involvement in cross voting and later expelled by the BJP Parliamentary Board did not attend the working committee meeting for the first time in his long political career with the party. " I do not think the working committee has taken any significant decision that impacts a larger section or serves any interest of Jammu or in favour of national interest …….they cannot do it either as there are only pigmies left with it who have always overlooked such matters", said Prof Chaman Lal while speaking to ET. Without mentioning any name, He said they all have their own vested interests and won't work with conviction any longer. Apparently upset for his absence for the first time Prof Gupta reiterated he would strive to work in the direction of what 'BJP actually stood for'. " I had never imagined the party in present state……..but the way things have happened, I feel the party has reached its lowest ebb……….party has allowed the real issues to get diluted or conveniently pushed them to backstage", he said adding it was intolerable for him to see issues core to Jammu getting sidelined. "If the present state of affairs continues I am sure it immediately necessitates formation of a new structure which can uphold these issue", the veteran politician said indicating emergence of a new organization about which the political corridors have been rife with speculations. Pertinent to mention is that six other MLAs who have been suspended were also not invited for the meeting. On the other hand the two day meeting concluded here today on a positive note that the phase of 'turmoil' which party witnessed for the last two months was temporary and it would emerge smoothly as a strong organization soon.In the meeting it was also maintained that leadership would 'stick to tough 'stand over cross voting matter and indiscipline would not be tolerated. " Individuals are not important in the party …….it is the organization and its image which is important…….discipline and order is supreme in the party", Ram Lal , national organizing general secretary who was chief guest in the working committee meeting observed today indication the party would remain tough on its stand on cross voting issue. |
