Special squads to facilitate Amarnath yatra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, JUNE 20: The special flying squads will be constituted to provide hassle free transport service to the Amarnathji yatris from Lakhanpur to Baltal and Pahalgam, scheduled to commence on June 29. This was decided at a high level meeting of officers chaired by Minister for Transport and CA&PD Qamar Ali Akhoon here today. It was decided that Additional Deputy Commissioner, DSP, ARTO and an officer from CA&PD Department of the concerned district would comprise members of these squads to be monitored by the Transport Commissioner. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Akhoon said the teams should ensure that no vehicle ferrying yatris or devotee is harassed or put to any unnecessary inconvenience during the course of yatra. “Facilitation of yatra has to carried out in a professional manner”, he said. The meeting was informed that the Transport department has earned revenue to the tune of Rs 14.37 crore during last fiscal with even SRTC on path of revival. The Minister impressed upon the concerned officers to redouble the efforts and achieve revenue targets in full. In view of complete normalcy, and booming tourism season, it is expected that the department and its associated corporations earn more than the set targets, he said. The meeting was attended by Transport Commissioner, Dr. Syed Fazullah, Excise Commissioner Mr. G. A. Peer, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Mrs Zahida Khan, Special Secretary, Home Sufi Muhammad Yousuf, Special Secretary (T&C) Mr.Anand Gupta, Additional Commissioner, Jammu Mr. R. K. Bhagat, Regional Transport Officer, Srinagar, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, RTO, Kathua, Mr. Shiv Kumar Gupta, and several other officers.
