SP College hosts debate | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, JUNE 20: A debating competition was organized by the Debate and Seminar Committee of S.P College on today. The theme of the debate was “Modernization has left no scope for inculcation of moral values”. Twenty six colleges from the valley participated in the debate. Prof. Sham Lal Gupta, Director Colleges was the chief guest on this occasion. Mr. Z. G. Muhammad was the guest of honour. The welcome address was presented by Prof. Mohammad Afzal Mir, Staff Secretary S. P. College, Srinagar. Speaking on this occasion Director Colleges appreciated the efforts of the college in organizing such events for the students. He also emphasizd upon the need for imbibing of the moral values by parents and teachers. Mr. Z. G. Muhammad stressed that modernization should not be blamed for deterioration of moral values, but it is the mind – set that plays the key role in understanding modernization in its true and positive sense. The Principal of the college, Prof. Zahoor Ahmad Chatt appreciated the overwhelming participation of the various colleges of the valley and expressed his satisfaction over the deliberations of the students on the theme. He emphasized that moral values can be effectively transmitted through the behaviour of the parents and teachers. The jury for the debate comprised Prof. Yaseen Ahmad Shah, Principal GDC (Boys) Anantnag, Prof. N. A. Gilkar, Principal GDC Sogam and Prof. Sheikh Mairaj-ud-Din, H.O.D. Geography S. P. College, Srinagar. Asma Zahoor Women’s College, M. A. Road, Mr. Owais Shafi Gandhi Memorial College and Mr. Junaid Yaseen Islamia College of Science and Commerce obtained the first, second and third positions respectively. Two consolation prizes were also given to Arifa Kareem, GDC (Women) Baramulla and Safeer Ahmad Bhat, GDC (Boys) Anantnag. Prof. Shah-e-Jehan Wani H.O.D. I.T. presented the vote of thanks.
