EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, Jun 20: Believe it or not 50 kilometre long Kishtwar-Dachhan road is under construction for the last 40 years.
Ask the residents and they would tell you that they have been suffering at the hands of successive government. Even after 62 years of India’s independence, residents of the area have to travel 40 to 50 kilometres by foot to reach their destinations due to non-availability of transport facility. Residents of area have alleged that government has failed to provide basic facility to the residents.
Local resident Mangat Ram Parihar alleged that work on motorable link road upto 50 kilometres from Kishtwar to Dachhan started during seventies but after constructing 20 kilometres road upto Patimhala, department moved not an inch despite claiming to have spent crores of rupees on it. He added that road link is under construction for the last nearly 40 years yet it is incomplete.
Raghunath Thakur, a local resident said that all the essentials of life are carried on mules which cost them heavily. This is a blot on the functioning of the state as well as central governments that even after 62 years of attaining independence; people have to travel such a long distance on foot.
State JKNPP secretary Anil Parihar also condemned the government for its failure in mitigating genuine demands of Dachhan residents who are suffering badly for want of road connectivity from past more than 40 years . He alleged that the PMGSY scheme which provides connecting a hamlet of 500 population with the main road has also not worked here as the project of this road sent to Prime Minister in 2008 by the Chief Minister has not been sanctioned under this scheme so far and is pending there.
He added that area has huge tourism potential but it has been ignored by successive governments and no effort seems to have been made to bring these parts of scenic beauty on the tourist map of India for their development. However, he has requested the government as well as higher authorities of the concerned department to take appropriate measures to get this link road completed without wasting any further time in the interest of public at large who are suffering due to the lack of road connectivity.
