Even after completion, Gangyal police station awaits inaugural ceremony
6/20/2011 10:47:19 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jun 20: Leaking roofs, worn-out concrete floor, peeled plaster on the walls and worn-out door frames. This is the condition of the Gangyal Police station.
Gangyal police station’s new building has been completed four month ago but it is awaiting inauguration by a VVIP. Sources said that building is in dilapidated condition. Roof leaks and when the monsoon sets-in, one cannot sit inside. Sources revealed that the department is waiting for DGP Kuldeep Khoda to inaugurate the new building but he is yet to utter a word on this issue.
He added that for the police, it is more important to get the building inaugurated from a VIP rather than bother about the safety of the people and the policemen who visit the station daily. He said that the building in real sense is unsafe and could turn into debris on any given day.
Complainants have appealed the department to shift the police station to a new place. SP South Rajeshwar Singh said that construction of the wall has been completed. “It will be inaugurated soon so that normal work starts in the new building. Delay was due to preoccupation of the senior officers”, he said.
It is important to mention here that many of the police station in the state are without proper facilities despite the fact that Jammu and Kashmir is facing militancy and these need to have proper equipments. Even for lodging routine FIRs, people have to bring their own paper and stationary, as stations does not have these.
