| Empower panchayats at the earliest in J&K: BSP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, June 20
In order to take the spirit of democracy to grassroot levels, the BSP today said that panchayats should be empowered in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.The party also demanded from the state government to grant Below Poverty Line (BPL) certificates to needy and deserving people and land to the landless people in the state."The Panchayats should be empowered at the earliest, so that power to make decision on development and economic front reaches at the grassroot level", BSP State General Secretary Rakesh Wazir said at a function to facilitate newly elected BSP Sarpanchs and Panches in Hiranagar Assembly constituency of Kathua district today.All the 16 phases of Panchayat elections have been complete and now government should empower the Panchayat Raj Institutions, he said."We demand that the below poverty line ration cards to the needy and deserving people be provided by the state government", he said.He also alleged that all the schemes for the poor are not reaching them and government should pay attention towards it.
