Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jun 20: A Madhya Pradesh based NGO Sangani Group along with Tehreek-e-Insaf, distributed relief material among 100 militancy-hit families of Jammu region.
About 10 kilograms of flour and other household items were distributed among the families who are on agitation for the last four years demanding relief be provided to them as is given to other militancy affected families uprooted from their villages.
Speaking on the occasion, General Secretary TeI, Ravinder Raina said that militancy affected people of Jammu have been provided with nothing by the administration despite the fact that they have suffered during the militancy and were forced to leave their homes.
He accused the government of ignoring 12,000 migrant families who have been denied their right to get relief as per rules of the Union government for the militancy affected families of Jammu and Kashmir. “Despite repeated requests to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other leaders, no consideration is being given to their plight and they continue to face discrimination at the hands of officials”, Raina alleged.
He said that militancy victims of Jammu region are on the verge of starvation as in the absence of any relief; they are unable to sustain their families. Raina reiterated demands of militancy affected people regarding constitution of a high level committee to assess losses suffered by militancy hit people of Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Reasi, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts.
He demanded economic package for affected people and reservations to their wards in the educational institutions especially in professional colleges. Speaking on the occasion, President of Sanghani Group Mamta Sharma said that relief material was distributed among the families as their livelihood and education of children are badly hampered.
She said that her organisation will continue to provide relief to these affected families from time to time so that they are able to meet their daily requirements. Others who were present on the occasion included, Ghulam Moeiudin Beig, Rakesh Sharma, Som Nath of Tehreek-e-Insaf and Eshwer Sharma senior member of Sanghani Group.
