Chidambaram arrives on 2-day visit

srinagar, June 20: To review latest security situation in Kashmir, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram arrived here on a two-day visit on Tuesday.
Amid tight security arrangements, Chidambaram arrived at Srinagar airport at 5 PM where from he was taken to Raj Bhavan. The Home Minister held a detailed meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Governor, NN Vohra.
Official sources told KNS that PC will meet Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, later in the evening, where both the leaders are expected to discuss latest political and security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director-General K Vijay Kumar and Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Raman Srivastava are also accompanying Chidambaram, sources said.
He is scheduled to go to Pahalgham where he will be meeting the officials of South Kashmir. The meeting is part of series of interactions that the Home Minister started with officials at the district level. In October last year, he held a meeting in Baramulla in North Kashmir and in February a similar meeting was held in Doda in Jammu region.
During the meeting, he will review the development work in South Kashmir and security arrangements for Amarnath Yatra.
Before flying back on Wednesday evening, he will also visit Neeru post manned by BSF in Gurez sector of North Kashmir. He will interact with soldiers there.
"Security has been tightened in and around Srinagar city to thwart any possible attack from militants," a senior police official said.
Those who received Chidambaram at Airport included Minister for Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda, Principal Secretary Home, B R Sharma, Special Director Genreal, CRPF Upal, Additional Director General, BSF Baljit Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Budgam Mohammad Rafi and other senior civil and police officers.
The Congress delegation including J&K PCC Vice Presidents Ghulam Nabi Monga and Mohammad Muzaffar Parray, Vice Chairperson, Social Welfare Board Khem Lata Wakhloo, General Secretary, PCC Mohammad Akbar Bhat, District President Congress, Srinagar, Abdul Gani Khan, Youth Congress President Shoaib Lone and several other leaders.
