BJP spokesperson Dr Jitender Singh denied visa to travel to US | From technical fault initially, reason finally attributed to 'security' | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 20: After Gujarat Chief Minister Narinder Modi who faced a similar situation last year, it is Dr Jitender Singh -National Executive Member and chief Spokesperson of BJP in J&K who has been denied visa by American Embassy to travel to Washington where he was to attend a conference organized by Republican Party of America along with other 7 members of BJP delegation. The party high command has taken a serious note of the 'unspecified' objection and decided to take up the matter with higher officials in order to know the reasons for debarring its members from traveling to US. Ironical it may sound, the Embassy officials first kept on saying that it was on account of some technical fault in the computers that they were unable to clear Dr Singh's name in the visiting delegation until Saturday. While the other seven members left on Saturday on the assurance that Dr Singh would be sent by the next flight, the US Embassy after giving unspecified reasons initially finally refused to grant visa contending the computer was showing 'some objection' to this name on the basis of their own intelligence inputs required for security reasons. The conference cum meeting was to begin in Washington from today. Even as the Dharmender Pradhan leader of the BJP delegation sought clearance of Dr Jitender Singh's name contending that his presence in the delegation is valuable as he would represent the view point on sensitive international issues besides objective opinion on J&K issue, the officials kept on dithering and delaying . However, the officials reassured the BJP delegation until it left for US that it was a minor fault and would be rectified soon after which Dr Singh would be allowed to fly to US. The party accordingly rescheduled the tickets of Dr Singh for today only to be rejected and refused by the US Embassy this time asserting that due to security reasons he has been denied visa. Pertinent to mention is that Dr Singh's name was cleared by the BJP national President Nitin Gadkari after the party got proper invitation for 8 members to attend this conference. Almost on similar grounds Gujarat Chief Minister Narinder Modi was denied visa last year to travel to US even though he had proper invitation from a renowned NGO based in US. The party leadership including national general secretary Ram Lal on visit to J&K currently too has taken serious view of the development and asked the US Embassy that it should make clear and explain once for ever as to how many of its members whom it considers 'activists' are in their list who would be debarred from visiting US and on what grounds. Sources however attribute this denial to the inputs given by the Home Ministry adding that the possibility of 'role' of J&K government in not giving proper inputs could not be ruled out. What looks ironical in this particular case is that embassy officials first kept on terming delay in granting visa as technical fault and finally gave the reason of denying the same as security concern, without however specifying anything.
