'Young politicians' rhetoric of Cong to promote dynastic rule
Has it proved successful in J&K state ….?

Early Times Report
Jammu, June 20: Congress leader Digvijay Singh's comment that it is time Rahul Gandhi took over as Prime Minister has created a flutter in the political circles including Congress itself raising many eyebrows to Singh's 'contention' at this time.He may well related it to the talk of enthusing young politicians and infusing young blood into the seats of power but the moot question remains is this slogan relevant to Indian political scenario. In our own sensitive state, where the slogan has been given practical shape, to what extent it has proved to be successful in real sense…..?
It sounds quite ironical with Congress where the veteran leaders in general have only recently been crictical in remarks about the performance of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah calling him … "Baccha in politics…….." and on the other hand a senior leader like Digvijay strongly recommending Rahul's name for country's highest post. Even it was same Digvijay Singh who recently criticized Omar Abdullah for what he said that the young Chief Minister having failed to deliver attributing several reasons to substantiate his point. He even remarked that Chief Minister spends most of time in Delhi, an allegation which was later sought to be dismissed by him through a written letter.
The point in question is not what Digvijay says about the two leaders and in what context. Even as arguments in support are justifiable in own place, the larger question is whether the young politicians are fit in all respects to sit in seats of power or not. The question, obviously has relevance in our J&K state where the government is led by young Chief Minister , perhaps youngest in entire country to govern any state. Is this slogan of projecting young politicians on account of their 'extra ordinary' acumen and vision or simply on account of their affiliations with well placed political dynasties that necessitates promoting them in that direction…?
It is not to criticize or target the two youngsters of two political dynasties but to ask some relevant questions. After nearly three years of term, has Omar proved successful as he was desired and aspired to be on at least political counts……? Has he proved acumen and skills better than his predecessors while dealing with crucial issues and situations like last year when he confronted disasters and was virtually on edge of surrendering power. As young chief Minister has he been able to manage media well in the state…..or contain unabated criticism on account of continuous HR violations or in general perform well as head of the state…?
Omar as young politician may well have vision for betterment and many other qualities which politicians of his generation rarely have but the answers to these queries would be too brazen and direct as it is even his own party men and friends in general who are confiding that a sensitive state like J&K anytime needs a far more experienced and veteran politician to lead the state. Omar's intentions may have been straight and sincere but his actions and follow ups have been too flawed to go unnoticed. The control and command over bureaucracy, administration and police that remained predominant facets during the regimes of his predecessors have waned and disappeared in the present dispensation leading to vacuum on many fronts.
His governance role apart, he has been specifically seen as one being intolerant to media observations and criticism, something which is being now largely seen as gagging techniques of an offended and angry young Chief Minister. He or his government cannot justify these actions by any amount of argument. It is in context of lack of experience of 'youngsters' in certain crucial fronts, that the hype of projecting young politicians prematurely for the big roles can prove to be dangerous and counter productive….So better stop indulging in such 'rhetoric' Mr Digvijay Singh….!
