| Formulate Zojilla tunnel DPRs expeditiously: Akhoon | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, JUNE 21: Transport Minister, Qamar Ali Akhoon today stressed on expediting formulation of detailed project reports (DPRs) for construction of Zojila tunnel on Srinagar-Leh National Highway.
Chairing a meeting with the representatives of BEACON and 3G-I Built Company here, he highlighted the utility of early construction of the intra-regional tunnel at Zojila. “Government is serious to put in place all weather road communication to Leh and Kargil districts”, he said, adding that the tunnel will serve as a jugular vein for socio-economic growth and development of Kargilities.
Akhoon set a target of six months for completion of project report, after which, he said the execution of the project will take off following global tendering.
“Completion of survey for the tunnel should have been logically accelerated drawing up DPRs”, Akhoon said and impressed the concerned agencies to foster synergy for accomplishing the task within stipulated time.
The meeting was informed that four modern drilling machines fitted with latest equipment are presently on job to have up to date feasibility study of the tunnel. The 13-km long tunnel is proposed to be taken up with central funding, the meeting was told.
