PM won't be under Lokpal ambit: Govt draft | | | Agencie New Delhi: The Government has dug its heels on the Lokpal Bill and decided to exclude the Prime Minister completely from its purview. The Government version of the Lokpal Bill draft, accessed by CNN-IBN, clearly mentions that the Prime Minister cannot be under the Lokpal's ambit. But other ministers can be brought under the ambit of the Lokpal. Signalling its intention of having the final say on the Lokpal, the draft says that the Prime Minister, Speaker of Lok Sabha, Leader of Opposition and judges will be included in the committee that would select the Lokpal. Moreover, no investigation shall be made below the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police. The draft also says that non-government organisations will be brought under the purview of the Lokpal. Earlier, on Monday the Government draft had included the Prime Minister under the ambit of the anti-corruption watchdog but with a few riders. According to the previous draft complaints against the Prime Minister could be entertained but would be investigated only after the Prime Minister left office. The clause had been included by the Government after consultation with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
