Infiltration by militants all time low in 2 decades: Hasnain
6/22/2011 12:18:49 AM
srinagar: Terming the recent reports that 35-40 militants have managed to sneak into Kashmir as unconvincing, army on Tuesday claimed that the infiltration from across the Line of Control has come down to all time low in two decades of insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to reporters on sidelines of a function here, General Officer Commanding of 15 Corps Lt General Syed Atta Hasnain said that no militant has been able to sneak into the Valley despite couple of attempts this year.
"I will not claim that we eliminated the infiltrators during the two intrusion bids by them but they were not able to cross to this side," he said.
To a question about the reports that nearly 35 to 40 militants have entered Kashmir valley from across the LoC, Husnain said that these reports were not credible.
"These reports are only an assessment and not confirmed ones. Different agencies have different sources and the news reaches through different modes."
About the different versions by army and police on presence of militants, he said, "The presence of militants in the state is based on reports which are actually based on inputs from the informers."
To a question about the indicting of army by SHRC in Human rights violations, the General reserved the comment.
"I cannot reject the report of the commission neither can I comment as most of the cases are sub Judice. The judicial process is on and its decision will be the final," he said as per a PBI correspondent.
He said that the army has taken action against 96 personnel involved in Human Rights Violation.
The army officer announced that elaborate security arrangements have been put in place for the pilgrims during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
Earlier, Hasnain met the newly elected Sarpanhs and people in the north Kashmir district.
