NC's historical relationship with Congress!
Is Kamal feigning ignorance?

Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 21: Many brows were raised today when National Conference leader, Dr Mustafa Kamal talked about his party's `historical' relationship with the Congress. While taking a dig at Makhan Lal Fotedar whom he (Kamal ) called (aasteen ka saanp], Kamal said: "The relationship between the National Conference and Congress was enshrined in the history of Jammu & Kashmir. "It dates back to relationship between Pt. (Jawhar Lal) Nehru and Sheikh (Abdullah) Sahib, Indira (Gandhi) Ji and Sheikh Sahib, Rajiv (Gandhi) Ji and Farooq (Abdullah) Sahib and now Rahul (Gandhi) Ji and Omar (Abdullah) Sahib under the patronage of Sonia (Gandhi) Ji. This relationship is based on principles and ideological bonding."
Kamal cannot be unaware of the harsh realities of NC-Congress `affair'. The family had to suffer a lot when Sher-e-Kashmir was dethroned and jailed in 1953. People close to Sheikh family say the `popular' leader's wife and children lived from hand to mouth during those `difficult' times. So, is Kamal feigning ignorance?
For the information of Kamal (if he is feigning ignorance), the Congress leaders not only jailed Sher-e-Kashmir but humiliated him as well. In early 70's when Sher-e-Kashmir had not yet ended his political wilderness, Indira Gandhi visited Kashmir and met Sheikh Abdullah in a hut in Pahalgam. Noted historian Shabnam Qayoom has carried the event in his Kashmir Ka Siyasi Inqilaab. According to him, Sher-e-Kashmir discussed the Beg -Parthasarthey talks and requested for a change in nomenclature of the state's second highest post. He wanted to be called Prime Minister. Indira Gandhi, Shabnam says, flatly refused. "Let people of Kashmir call you prime Minister but you will remain the Chief Minister for all practical purposes. When it comes to my country, I do not spare even my father", she made clear. It was during this meeting that Indian Gandhi used the famous sentence `Clock cannot be taken back'.
Sher-e-Kashmir often used Iqbal's verse, kisi kay aagay khum na ho sakhi meri garden… (I never bow my head before anybody). "But after Madam Gandhi's harsh words, Sher-e-Kashmir lowered his head. As ill luck would have it, a photographer entered the room at this time and caught this posture of Sher-e-Kashmir in his camera. The `lion' of Kashmir jumped from his seat and ran after the photographer. Outside the hut, he directed a police officer to grab him. The harassed photographer was manhandled and brought inside the hut. As soon as the police officer stretched his hand to hand over the film to Sher-e-Kashmir, Madam Gandhi managed to lay hands on the film. She immediately dipped it in her bag." (Kashmir Ka Siyasi Inqilaab).
Madam Gandhi never used the film but Sher-e-Kashmir felt humiliated to the hilt.
