Compensate calamity affected nomads, shepherds: EC

SRINAGAR, JUNE 22:
Estimates Committee (EC) of Legislative Assembly today called for compensating nomads and shepherds whose live stock perishes due to vagaries of weather or during calamities.
The Committee, which met here under the Chairmanship of Dr. Mustafa Kamal to discuss functioning of Revenue department also called for relocation of security forces from orchards and other agricultural land to facilitate owners to carry out smooth agri activities.

Threadbare discussion was held on budgetary allocations for developing infrastructure for newly created districts, criteria adopted for sanctioning financial assistance and compensations under Natural Calamity Relief Fund, settlement process, computerization of revenue records and issuance of pass books.
The Committee appreciated the working of the department for settlement process, however it called for speeding up the pace to complete the target within a time frame. The Committee also suggested issuance of Kissan Cards to the land owners instead of Pass books.
Roshni Act was also discussed threadbare and the Committee sought official record to know the progress on ground. The committee was informed that amendment in this regard is under process in the department.
The Chairman called for involvement of public representative while sanctioning relief to the natural calamity sufferers. He also suggests enhancement in the relief for fire affected and covering these victims under Indira Awas Yojana (IAY).
Legislators, Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, A.R. Veeri, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Chowdhry Zulufkar Ali, Mr. Murtaza Ahmed Khan and Subhash Chander Gupta gave their suggestions to improve the functioning of the revenue department.
Among others, Financial Commissioner Revenue, Pramod Jain, Commissioner Secretary Revenue, Aijaz Iqbal, Director Land Records, Abdul Rashid Dar and other concerned officers of Revenue department and Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
