Omar reviews Cross LoC trade matters

SRINAGAR, June 22:
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today assured the Cross LoC Traders that he will take up the issue of easing restrictions on this trade with the Central Government advocating banking and communication facilities for the traders.

“This strong Confidence Building Measure (CBM) requires to be strengthened by removing all bottlenecks and nurturing it to the benefit of the traders of both the sides of LoC”, he said adding that the issues within the jurisdiction of State would be addressed by the State Government on fast track while those requiring Centre Government’s approval would be thoroughly taken up at the right forums.

The Chief Minister announced that State Government would consider the concession on VAT to the items to be exported by the traders from this part of the LoC to the other.

“The Finance Department has already finalized a proposal in concurrence with the Law Department to this effect”, he said adding that in order to allow VAT concession to the LoC traders an amendment to a Sub-Clause of VAT Act is required. He said that the Government would move ahead in this direction on fast track.

The meeting among other was attended by Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal, Director General Police, Kuldeep Khoda, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas, Principal Secretary Home, B. R. Sharma, Commissioner Secretary Finance, Sudhanshu Pandey, Commissioner Secretary Industries, Umang Narula, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon, various senior officers and representatives of the Associations of LoC Traders.

The traders’ representatives presented a list of demands for the consideration of Government to make the trade smoother. They identified the areas which require attention by the Centre Government for making this CBM more viable and strong
