6/22/2011 10:24:41 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, June 22 (KNS): Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today left Srinagar for New Delhi in a special aeroplane in the afternoon after concluding his three-day visit to the Valley.
Before concluding his visit, the Home Minister had another round of discussions with the Governor, N N Vohra, at Raj Bhavan here today.
“During their 30-minute meeting, the Union Home Minister briefed the Governor about his meetings at Srinagar and Pahalgam and about certain matters which they had discussed earlier, in their initial meeting two days ago,” an official handout said.
The Home Minister had held extended discussions with the Governor on arrival in Srinagar from New Delhi on June 20. The two leaders had disused issues which included unemployment and the obtaining pace of socio-economic development, internal and external security related issues, arrangements for and certain issues relating to the forthcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra, matters which required time bound attention after the recent completion of the Panchayat elections, and governance issues, particularly matters relating to honest and efficient delivery of public services.
Earlier in the day Chidambaram visited a forward post of para-military BSF in Gurez sector of north Kashmir. Accompanied by Director General BSF, Raman Shrivastava, the Home Minister interacted with the officers and jawans near the LoC and was briefed about the counter-infiltration measures taken by BSF in the area, official sources told KNS.
Chidambaram flew back to Delhi soon after his return from Gurez, they said.
Earlier in the morning, the helicopter carrying the home minister made an emergency landing at the technical area of Srinagar International Airport.
“The helicopter carrying the home minister developed a technical snag and had to make an emergency landing at Srinagar airport,” a police official told KNS.
