Khoda sanctions scholarships for 230 police wards

SRINAGAR, June 22:
The Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda, has said that welfare of the wards of police martyrs has always remained our priority and the department has taken many initiatives to provide financial assistance to these wards for continuing their studies. He said that the Organisation has also undertaken various schemes for the welfare of serving personnel and their families.
Khoda was speaking while announcing scholarships over Rs. 9 lacs in favour of 230 school going children of JKP personnel. The wards include children of those personnel, who laid down their lives for bringing peace in the State and protected human lives and public property. Scholarships have also been sanctioned in favour of meritorious wards of serving personnel who have secured distinction in 8th and 9th class examinations during the academic session (2010-2011).
These scholarships were sanctioned in a meeting of Executive Body of Police Parivar Fund, which was held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today under the chairmanship of Director General of Police.
Addressing the meeting, the DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has been fighting the menace of terrorism for over two decades now in which large number of our brave jawans and officers offered supreme sacrifices of their precious lives.
DGP said that violence left the families of our martyrs especially the children in a desperate condition and the Police Organization realizing its prime responsibility came forward to provide a helping hand in the form of financial assistance to these families, he added.
Giving details, Khoda said that over Rs. 8 lacs have been sanctioned in favour of 166 children of police personnel who have sacrificed their lives while fighting militancy in the State and also more than Rs. one lac in favour of 64 meritorious wards of serving police personnel securing 75 percent and above marks in class 8th and 9th.
