| R&B sector worse in Doda, Wani espresses concern | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 23: Abdul Majid Wani, the senior Congress Party leader and MLA Doda, expressed grave concern over worsening condition of R&B sector in Doda, during last two years. Because of poor quality, all crucial roads linking Doda District Head Quarter with remote areas are washed away, reportedly, due to heavy rainfall as well as frequent incidents of land slides.
He stated that the standard norms and the conditions specified in allotment contracts were openly violated, resulting in poor quality of the works. Unnecessary delays in completion of earth work, that too of sub-standard quality, and also a lackadaisical approach adopted by engineers of executing agencies in starting work for metalling/ black topping of these crucial road links have really created a havoc. Today, most of these road links have been washed away.
Unwarranted delays, caused by the JKPCC and its contractors in starting/ completion of works over few crucial bridges in Doda, have further aggravated the situation. Road connectivity upshots achieved during last five years seem to have reversed and resulted in a sheer wastage of public money & time.
Because of sub-standard works completed under R&B, CRF, NABARD, PMGSY, ERA and other such sectors in Doda, all crucial roads linking Doda District Head Quarter with remote areas are in dilapidated condition.
Those responsible with execution of road construction works in Doda district seem to have even ignored the fact that, on the indicator of road length per 100 sq. kms in Doda, the PWD records show that the district has one of the lowest road densities averaging 7.77 Kms against state density of 18.12 Kms. Of total 19000 Kilometers all types of road length in 22 districts of J&K, Doda districts, perhaps, have approximately 400 km of all types of road length.
MLA Doda expressed full hope and confidence that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shall take serious note of the situation on ground and apart from issuing orders for an exhaustive enquiry about the quality of works completed under R&B, CRF, NABARD, PMGSY, ERA and other suchsectors in Doda, during last two years; remedial measures shall also be taken for fast restoration of all road links connecting Doda district with remote areas.
Wani, also, expressed hope that ample funds shall be made available for improvement of R&B sector in Doda and an effective & practical monitoring system shall be put into place for keeping proper check & close surveillance over execution of all types of infrastructural development works in Doda.
