Govt. insensitive towards common masses | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 23: Alleging that government is insensitive towards the plight of the common man, state committee, Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) today said that price rise is unjustified. CITU today organised a rally and protested against the recent hike in the petrol prices in the country and demanded that government should ensure that poor people are given special concession in buying the essential commodities. Speakers alleged that during past one year there has been continuous rise in the prices of essential items like fuel, food grains, LPG and K-oil, which has now become a huge burden on the monthly budget of the masses. The rally also passed through Dogra chowk, Jewel, Gumat, Regunath Bazaar and culminated at Indira chowk. CITU leaders also expressed their grave concern over the continuous violence and atrocities by workers of Trinumul Congress against CITU activists in West Bengal after Assembly results. They alleged that more than one dozen persons were killed in the violence after Mamta Benerji took charge of the government. General secretary of the state unit, Om Parkash, expressed concern that UPA govt at the centre has totally failed the people of the country and is neglecting the basic issues. Com. Pawan Gupta, and Ramesh Chand, the senior leaders of Northern Zones Insurance Employees Association and Balkar Singh senior leaders of AITUC while addressing the gathering expressed their serious concern over the increasing unemployment and corruption in the country. They appealed to the working class to strengthened their unity and intensify the struggle against the anti-people policy of the government. Besides, Laxminder Singh the leader of Railway Loading and Unloading Workers Union, Sunita Kumari, J&K Asha workers Union, Kulbir Singh of Rhatha Mazdoor Union, Abdul Rashid, J&K Construction Workers Union, Rattan Chand Vcrma of NHPC staff and workers union and others also addressing the rally.
