Rajouri woman gets best ‘all India postman award’

Jammu, June 23: The Department of Posts, New Delhi has selected Swarna
Devi, Postman, Rajouri Head Post Office as the best postman in the All
India level.
This is the first time that Jammu and Kashmir gets the Postman Award
in the All India Level. She will be conferred Megdhoot Award. The
award will be presented to her on June 28 at New Delhi.
John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General J&K Circle, said that “this is a
special tribute for Jammu and Kashmir postal circle and we are proud
of this achievement”.
The award is a mark of respect and honour for Jammu and Kashmir. There
are near about 5, 00, 000 employees working in the Department of Posts
across India. The excellent staff members are selected every year for
Meghdoot Award.
Swarna Devi is more than just a Postman. Apart from the distribution
of mails, she has been involved in marketing of Postal Services by
introducing new Postal Products to the public. She is being popular
among the people of Rajouri.
Samuel said that Dak Seva Awards would be presented to the best Postal
Staff in Jammu and Kashmir in the next month. There are more than
10,000 staff members working in Post Offices in Jammu and Kashmir. The
staff members, based on their excellence and performance will be
selected for Dak Seva Awards.
He also announced that seven new Post Offices would be opened in
Jammu, Samba, Srinagar and other places.
A new post office will be opened at Agriculture University Jammu in
July 2011. It will be a fully computerized and modernized Post Office
for the benefit of University Students.
