First TURP performed at Government Hospital Sarwal

Jammu, June 24: A patient Bali Ram 60 years of age from Chakmani, Jhiri, Akhnoor with “urinary obstruction due to enlarged prostate gland” was admitted in Government Hospital Sarwaland underwent TURP (Trans urethral Resection of Prostate).
Dr Raja Langer MS (general surgery), DNB (Urology) who has recently joined at Govt Hospital Sarwal Jammu performed the procedure in the operation theaters of Sarwal Hospital. Anesthetists Dr Kamal Gandotra, Dr Geeta and other staff who assisted and contributed in successful performance of the operation were Rajesh Sharma & Rajinder Sharma both Theater Technicians, staff nurse Sunita and class IV employee Uttam.
Normally prostate surgery is an open surgery requiring large amounts of blood and prolonged hospital stay after surgery where as in TURP the prostate gland is removed endoscopically through urinary passage without any external cut, minimum blood loss and short hospital stay.
Dr Raja Langer has been specially posted in Government Hospital Sarwal Jammu by Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma to further improve the services in health sector and to take it to a super specialized level.
Medical Superintendent Dr Arun Sharma was present throughout the procedure and congratulated the team of Surgical Theater for performance of this procedure the first of its kind being performed in Health Department, though it is being done in Medical College.
He further informed that urology OPD is a regular affair in the hospital now and people and public at large should take benefit of urology clinic.
The people with kidney, ureter and bladder stones, urine problems because of old age, bladder and prostate cancer, stricture urethra, male infertility, impotence, erectile dysfunctions, and premature ejaculation shall be benefitted from the urology clinic.
The clinic will also benefit female and pediatric urological problems.
