25-km-long Udhampur-Katra rail line to commission in 2012 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Jun 24: The 25-km-long Udhampur-Katra, base camp of holy Mata Vaishnodevi, in Jammu region is expected to be ready by 2012. Director works, IRCON, Hitesh Khanna said 25 kms Udhampur- Katra line is expected to be commissioned till December 2012. He said the budget allocation for the project has been increased from Rs 950 crore to Rs 1100 crore this year. Mr Khanna, through a power point presentation gave overall position regarding the railway works taken in hand in Jammu and Kashmir to Rajya Sabha committee on Government Assurances headed by its chairman Birender Prasad Baishya here yesterday. Earlier, Mr Baishya addressed the meeting and impressed upon the authorities to ensure that the promises and assurances made regarding the completion of public interest works needs to be fulfilled without any delay. Expressing satisfaction over the works, he asked the officers to gear up their units at grass root level to achieve the desired results. Describing the J&K railway project as a challenging task, he hoped that the India Railway would complete this project and said this would be the most beautiful area in the world. The chairman expressed his appreciation for the works, completed and taken in hand in Jammu and Kashmir. The members of the committee raised various issues in the meeting regarding, land acquisition, disaster management, safety of railway passengers etc. The Assurance Committee members, Mr Moinul Hassan, Mr Avinash Rai Khanna, Mr Narendra Budania and Mr Shadi Lal Batra were also present in the meeting. |
