24 potential power projects identified in J&K | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jun 24 : As many as 24 potential hydel power projects have been identified in Jammu and Kashmir which will be completed within ten years to make the state self sufficient in power sector. The Commissioner Power Development Department (PDD) Basharat Ahmad Dhar said that the Jammu and Kashmir government has adopted multi pronged strategy for harnessing the hydel power potential in the state. He said 24 projects have been identified which would be completed in ten years. Mr Dhar said road map prepared in this behalf by the J&K government will usher the state in a prosperous period and hoped that good days are ahead when the state will be self sufficient in power sector. The Commissioner said Ministry of Rural Electrification has come forward in a big way for the purpose. Regarding Remote Village Electrification he said 121 un-electrified villages of Kishtwar, Kupwara, Gurez, Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, Budgam and Kulgam have been provided 16000 solar home lighting system while proposal for 210 more villages and 20 hamlets is under process. He said proposal for 24 villages and 274 hamlets has been submitted to Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for sanction.
