Why is Masoodi still in Srinagar? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 24: Srinagar Doordarshan’s former director, Rafiq Masoodi, it seems is in love with the picturesque office located at the banks of historic Jhelum near Zero Bridge. Notwithstanding his transfer to New Delhi last month, he is in no mood to leave his posh chamber in Srinagar. Nobody in the winter capital or even in New Delhi dares to seek an explanation from him for ignoring the transfer order as Masoodi enjoys the pleasant shade of lustry chinars that surround the office. Sources in the Doordarshan said that Masoodi went to New Delhi and Mumbai recently to get the transfer order cancelled. Masoodi, sources said, has connections with influential political persons in New Delhi who always stand by him in difficult times. However, the order has not been modified till date but, according to sources, he is confident of yet another ‘sojourn’ in Srinagar Doordarshan. His political connections can be gauged from the fact that the State government conferred the State Award on him this year despite CBI enquiry and newspaper reports against him. Masoodi is happy with his new designation. He is now DGP (Director General Programmes). The new designation, however, is not a promotion. DGP is equalant to Station Director. The new designation does not entitle him to a hike in his salary as well. Similarly the former Executive producers are now Deputy Directors. Masoodi has been in news for the past few years for the CBI enquiry against him and some private producers. The CBI were investigating massive ‘irregularities’ in Doordarshan . The CBI have spared some private producers but no charge sheet has been filed against any one. Pertinent to mention the Doordarshan has received more than 1000 Crores from New Delhi to counter Pakistan sponsored propaganda. Kashmir watchers believe that the local channel has miserably failed to live up to the expectations of the concerned in New Delhi. They have also questioned the quality of the programmes aired by the channel. “The channel has lost its popularity and credibility because of third rate programmes and the inefficient people that have been running the vital station”, they said. According to newspaper reports, the CBI have recommended capital punishment against Masoodi. He, reports said, has been shifted to Delhi headquarters with the apprehension that he could influence or tamper with evidence while continuing as Director DDK Srinagar. |
