International Drug Abuse Day observed | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 24: In connection with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu arranged an Exhibition of Posters here at the foyer of the Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium. Prof. N.K. Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, inaugurated the exhibition in presence of Prof. Jasbir Singh, Head, Department of Economics and Programme Coordinator N.S.S. He exhorted the younger generations to have no place for drugs in life and fulfill their dreams, touch new horizons and aim to march ahead with their books. The production, use and Illicit Trafficking of drugs is a culpable offence. He further said that most of the addicts get their first drug from a friend or an associate in the form of a favour.. Interacting with the media persons on this occasion Prof. Tripathi, said that the United Nations General Assembly in December 1987, passed a resolution proclaiming the 26th of June each year as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. This day is observed all over the world to raise awareness against the menace of drugs. With this view the University has arranged the exhibition of the Posters for the awareness of the youth and theme for this year is “Think Health-not Drugs”. The beautiful posters prepared by the students of the various P.G Departments of the University and its Affiliated Colleges using Poster, Pastel, Water and Acrylic colours, were highly appreciated by one and all. Some of the interesting captions of the Posters including “Stand Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, “Don’t let these Drugs smoke away your life”, “No need of Heroine to be a Hero”, “Life is beautiful, Don’t let it go up in smoke”, “Life or Drugs, Choice is yours” and “Save Life, No to Drugs, Yes to Life”.
