JMC demolishes encroachments, impose fine on defaulters | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 25: Enforcement staff of Jammu Municipal Corporation led by Chief Enforcement Officer alongwith police force removed the encroachments by demolishing the plinths, RCC pillars raised on the edge of nallah at Gangyal, Jammu. The encroachments had been noticed by the Commissioner JMC S.C. Sawheny while reviewing the progress of the ongoing work of clearing and desilting of deep drains and nallahas passing through various localities of the city as the Jammu Municipal Corporation has geared up its men and machinery to ensure that the nallahas and deep drains are cleared and desilted before setting up of monsoon season. The Jammu Municipal Corporation once again has appealed the general public not to throw waste, debris and building material etc. in the nallahas as it makes the task of Jammu Municipal Corporation more cumbersome in clearing them, besides, ensuing monsoon can also cause damage to the houses and properties in the event of choking and blockage of these nallahas / deep drains. Besides this, the Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation alongwith team of food inspectors undertook drive to check the quality of food items especially on the forthcoming Shri Amar Nath Ji Yatra and inspected about 115 food establishments like cooked food Dhabas, milk & milk products shops , vendors, restaurants, dhabas, fruit juice shops, tea stalls, sweet shops, bakery shops, cut fruits reharies, ice cream shops, sugarcane juice reharies, jaljeera reharies etc. in the areas of Vivekanand Chowk, Canal Road, Bhagwati Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Railway Station Area etc. During the inspection 26 defaulters were booked under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. An amount of Rs. 6400 was charged as fine from the defaulters and about 50 kgs of sweets, stale cooked food, ice cream and about 5 Kgs of cut fruit which were not fit for human consumption were destroyed on spot. The team also seized polythene carry bags from various food establishments and other out lets who were using the polythene carry bags.
