Yoga more active than work in Forest department
6/25/2011 10:18:02 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, June 25:

While the forest cover in Jammu and Kashmir is depleting fast, it seems higher officials of the Forest Department are more interested in yoga classes than performing their duties.
Sources told KNS that Commissioner Secretary Forests, Shant Manu, is running yoga classes at his Humhama residence where most of the senior officers of the Department are regular visitors.
“Principal Chief Conservator Forests, R D Tiwari, Chief Conservator Forests Central, Suresh Chug, Conservator Forests Agrostology, B K Singh, Chief Accounts Officer, Ms Meenakshi, Conservator Forests Central Circle, Nisar Darzi and DFO Urban, Abid Nazir are some of the officers who attend the yoga classes at the Commissioner’s residence,” a senior officer of the Department told KNS on the condition of anonymity.
“We are at loss to understand whether the classes are being held in official capacity or personal. While there is no such government order to hold the classes, the officers prefer to visit the Commissioner’s residence regularly to keep him in good humour,” he said.
The officers, sources said, use official vehicles for the purpose. “On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at least a dozen vehicles of Forest department are parked outside Commissioner’s residence as officials’ along with their families are seen participating in yoga classes,” they revealed.
Sources within the Department revealed that dozens of important files are pending for disposal from the last several months. “Though Forest Minister, Mian Altaf, is among a few honest ministers in the state government, some of the officers in Forest on important postings are corrupt. They are misleading the minister due to which work is suffering,” sources alleged.
The PCCF defended holding yoga classes terming it as ‘art of living.’ “It has been prescribed by Government of India,” Tiwari told KNS.
However, when asked whether there is any official order to hold the yoga classes, he said, “The order hasn’t been received yet. But we are expecting to receive it soon.” (KNS)
