Ensure quality items, reasonable during Shri Amarnath Yatra : DC to traders

JAMMU, JUNE 25-In order to monitor the quality and rates of various essential commodities during ensuing Shri Amarnath Yatra-2011, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Jammu, Mr Sanjeev Verma convened a meeting officers from CAPD, Tourism, Legal Metrology Departments and President and Members of Trading Community.
The DC asked the members of the trading community to ensure that the rates of various items including food items, items of consumer durables and rates of hotels/lodges, to be charged from the pilgrims should be realistic and reasonable. He also asked them to ensure the quality of these items as well. It was informed in the meeting that discount of 30 % on tariff will be provided by hotel and lodges during the yatra period. It was decided that Director Tourism in consultation with President, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, President, Hotel and Lodges Association will fix the tariff/discount of such hotel and lodges and the same will also be displayed prominently.
The DC urged upon the President Chamber of Commerce and Industry and President, Hotel and Lodges Association Jammu to take action against the owners of hotel and lodges who reportedly charge exorbitant rates. The Director Tourism, Jammu was asked to check the registration of these hotels/lodges.
The member of trading community expressed serious concern over the quality and rates of walnuts being sold in the market. It was intimated that walnut (Bata) is being sold on the same rate as soft shell walnut, thereby cheating the consumers. The chair directed the market checking squad to ensure that who so ever sells walnut (batta0 must display the rates and availability of the same. Further, those using deceptive tactics by mixing Batta with superior varieties will be booked under law. The DD assured that the various issues raised will be taken care of.
The President, Chamber of Commerce and Industry assured that they will extend full cooperation and support to the administration in making the yatra successful.
