Govt committed to women empowerment: Slathia

JAMMU, JUNE 25- Minister for Industries and Commerce Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia has said that the Coalition Government, headed by Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah, was committed to empower women of the state adding that 33% reservation for women in just concluded Panchayat Election bears the testimony in this regard.
The Minister was addressing participants after inaugurating half yearly standing committee meeting of All India Women’s Conference organized by Jammu and Kashmir Women’s Society at Jammu here today.
Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo was also present on the occasion.
Slathia appreciated the J&K Women Society for organizing the conference. He lauded J&K Women Society for the work it was doing for the welfare of needy women, irrespective of caste, creed, sect, and age. He said that today’s woman is working shoulder to shoulder with men and assumed much greater responsibility in the nation building. He said while woman are going out to work, she was also shouldering the responsibility of house keeping and nursing of children. This way she has assumed a greater role in the society and need much appreciation and special treatment”
Appreciating the organizers for their work, Sakina Itoo said that holding of such conference boost the morale of the women and provides her an opportunity to put across his views.
She said the time has come when women has to take the maximum responsibility of the society and work for its growth and development. She called upon the women folk to take to entrepreneurship as they have better management abilities. “By opting for own ventures they can provide employee other women and contribute in much better way “ she added.
Ms Itoo said that she will continue her efforts in serving the mankind with same sincerity and enthusiasm to minimize difficulties of old aged, physically challenged persons, people living below poverty line and the women in distress. She further assured that her Ministry will encourage all those who are serving the society selflessly and co-operating the State Govt. in mitigating the suffering of people.
