BJP lashes out over VISA denial issue
6/25/2011 11:36:39 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, June 25: Lashing out at the US authorities as well as the Congress led UPA government at Centre and the Congress-NC coalition government in the State, the state BJP President Shamsher Singh Manhas has sought explanation for denial of visa to state chief spokesperson & national executive member Jitendra Singh who is known for his nationalist credentials and was one of the members of the 8-member BJP delegation that was invited to Washington by Republican Party of America and “International Republican Institute”.
Addressing a press conference along with Jitendra Singh and state general secretary Satish Sharma at party headquarters here today, Manhas informed that the Central leadership of the party will ask the US Embassy to provide it with the list of BJP leaders whom the US authorities find unwelcome to that country because in the case of both Narendra Modi earlier and Jitendra Singh now, no valid reason was offered for denial of visa.
Manhas said that American Embassy will also be asked to provide the criteria for issue or denial of visa, particularly when leaders like Narendra Modi or Jitendra Singh had no criminal cases pending against them.
Manhas said that BJP Central High Command is seized of the matter and has taken it very seriously which is evident from the fact that within hours of denial of visa to Singh, a press conference was held at party’s headquarters New Delhi under the guidance of national chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad and addressed by national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain.
Manhas alleged that in the opinion of party High Command, there was a possibility that the visa was deliberately denied to Singh under pressure from Union Home Ministry and J&K State Government but since in such cases the visa cannot be denied out rightly, a lame excuse was put out that the computer had gone out of order.
Manhas said that the party will make it an issue at national level and call for a debate as to how separatist Kashmir leaders like Geelani and Mirwaiz were provided all facility by the state and Central governments to travel abroad despite a number of criminal and sedition cases pending against them, while national leaders from BJP were not allowed to travel abroad so that true objective picture about Jammu and Kashmir and the region should not be known to the world.
Manhas also referred to rising unemployment in the state and sudden steep hike in prices of cooking gas and diesel and said that the NC-Congress coalition in the state should utilize its energy in working towards mitigation of the sufferings of the people instead of indulging in acts of harassment to the nationalist leaders.
