| Couple ends lives by jumping into Chenab river | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, June 25: A Janipur based couple committed suicide by jumping into Chenab River at Akhnoor. The incident occurred over the newly constructed bridge, police sources informed. The identification of the deceased couple has been established as Usha Devi and Sunil Kumar, owner of the HIIT Computer Centre.
According to police sources Usha left her residence for Akhnoor in a Maruti van (JK02AR-9152) with her driver Jang Bahadur.
The woman, on reaching the middle of the new bridge over Chenab River asked the driver to stop the vehicle as she wanted to make a call.
After a brief talk with her husband, the woman jumped into river Chenab.
On seeing this, police said, the driver made a call to her husband Sunil Kumar and narrated the entire episode. The husband of the drowned woman asked the driver to stay there till he reached the spot, police said, adding he reached there in his Scorpio (JK14B-333) and parked his vehicle from where his wife had jumped.
Police said that he, after talking for a while with the driver, he also jumped into the river and drowned.
As soon as the word of the tragic incident spread, senior police officials rushed to the spot but there was no trace of the drowned couple who allegedly ended their lives by jumping into the river. Police after registering the case is investigating the matter. |
