| Will BJP High Command take it to logical conclusion this time? | | Visa Denial Issue | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 25: Nearly five days on when the issue of visa denial to Dr Jitender Singh came to fore in New Delhi, the state unit of BJP has raked it up apparently because the leader belongs to J&K state. The Party high command rightly so too appears to be serious this time to take up the issue with US Embassy as to why they were 'forced' to take such steps second time. The moot question remains will the high command follow it up to logical conclusion or just make a superficial cry till it dilutes in the clamour of political issues ….? The larger question remains even if Party high command pursues it seriously, will it ever get to know the real reasons or simply the response from the US Embassy officials. BJP leadership's general allegation is that objection to providing visa to Dr Jitender Singh has been raised 'under pressure', the implicit inference being that it is the inputs given by Congress led UPA at Centre and NC led coalition government in J&K on the basis of which Dr Singh's visa to travel to US for attending a meeting was withheld. The allegation is however speculative as neither the party nor Dr Singh in person has yet any evidence to prove this. But the fact remains that out of 8 members in the BJP delegation which attended the meeting in Washington, it was only Dr Jitender Singh whose name was not given clearance until the last moment even as the embassy officials kept on dithering about it on account of some technical fault in the computers. One is prompted to know as to what are the reasons that prevented the concerned officials to deny the visa to a person who apparently has no 'negative' credentials that would have jeopardized the interests of US or any lobby there. As for his background, a renowned diabetics specialist and a social activist now turned politician with BJP as his ideologically compatible party, Dr Singh is known for being vocal on nationalist stances on the issues confronting the J&K state in individual capacity as well. Even prior to joining BJP, in capacity of being a prolific writer he has reflected this many times through the columns of the news papers. He also key played key role during 2008 agitation in the state over Amarnath land political row and was on the fore front of Sangharsh Samiti as chief spokesperson. All these engagements apparently do not make any reason to be seen as 'perceived threat' which on account of which he was not allowed to travel to US .True that one cannot force any country to issue visa and it is purely the authorities of that country to decide on such matters but the bigger question remain was Dr Singh denied visa because of his association with BJP is so BJP being principle opposition party of the country to ask the reasons as to why its leaders every know and then are make to face such objections primarily from a country like U.S.This becomes imperative also to ensure that such actions are not reputed in future that too only with the leaders of this country. |
