Guv inaugurates Kashmir comedy theatre festival-2011 | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jun 26: Governor N. N. Vohra inaugurated 10-day Kashmir comedy theatre festival at SKICC here last evening.
This Theatre Festival has been organized by the Jammu Kashmir Film Makers and Artists Cooperative Ltd (JKFMAC) with a view to revive and promote rich cultural heritage of the state. First Lady Usha Vohra was present on the occasion. In his address, Governor, who was the Chief Guest at the function, said that this is a very good occasion that the JKFMAC has decided to once again commence their activities by organizing a series of comedy theatre presentations.
He observed that the people of the State have had more than their share of tears over the past years and hoped that these presentations would bring back smiles on their faces. He emphasized the need for working on sustained basis to bring joy and prosperity to the people of the State. Governor expressed sincere hope that the organizing of Drama Festival will mark the beginning of a new phase.
Governor released book titled, “Theatre Akh Tarruf”, written by veteran theaterist, Ashok Jailkhani, Additional Director General, Doordarshan, on the occasion. Governor formally declared the Theatre Festival open by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Earlier, on arrival at function, the Governor and the First Lady were received by the functionaries of the JKFMAC and the artists by presenting them bouquets.
Dr. Sohan Lal Koul presented a detailed review of this book. Deputy Director General, Doordarshan, Dr. Rafiq Masoodi, congratulated the organizers for taking this significant initiative of organizing the Theatre Festival and hoped that it would be a great success. Director Information, Kh. Farooq Renzushah, dwelt on the glorious history of Kashmir as a seat of knowledge, learning, art, culture and wisdom and stressed the need for restoring this glory.
Prominent personalities present at the inaugural function were former Chief Justice of the State High Court, Justice (Retd) B. A. Khan, Prof. Rehman Rahi and Pran Kishore. Among those who also spoke on the occasion included President, JKFMAC, Ayash Arif. First drama of the Festival, “Local Taxes Extra”, was staged on the occasion which received a thunderous applause from large audience which comprised intellectuals, writers, poets, academicians, social activists, theatre personalities, artists, media persons, functionaries of JKFMAC and prominent citizens.
