Farmers to hit roads if DAP not provided
6/26/2011 11:10:19 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, June 26: BJP MLA Sukhnandan Kumar today said that the farmers of Jammu will once again come on roads if DAP fertilizer is not made available to them within next 10 days
The BJP MLA was accompanied by Sarpanch Narinder Singh of Jaswan Panchayat, Sarpanch Dharam Pal Sharma of Flora Nagwani Panchayat and Balbir Singh, Member BJP Co-Operative Cell.
Sukhnandan Kumar, who represents Marh Constituency, which has the majority population of farmers, said that the farmers are always forced to come on roads when they ought to be in fields .It is so because the farmers do not get seeds, pesticides, water for irrigation and fertilizers on time as a result of which they are left with no option but to protest and agitate.
He added that many a times, their crops fail due to natural calamities like droughts, floods and cloudbursts. If during any season, it is hoped that the crops may be good but unfortunately non-availability of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, water for irrigation etc affects their crops.
Sukhnandan Kumar said that these are not mere allegations. If we talk of Jammu district only, the requirement of DAP fertilizer for the month of May was 4500 metric tonnes but just 1200 metric tonnes was released. Again, in the month of June it was 5000 metric tonnes but the released quota was only 1550 metric tonnes. As far July is concerned, the requirement is 6500 metric tonnes but it is feared that again minimum quota will be kept for Jammu.

Sukhnandan Kumar further said that Chambal Mark fertilizer for Jammu was just 1560 metric tonnes while it was 2373 metric tonnes for Srinagar. At present, TATA mark fertilizer released is 3922 metric tonnes and for Jammu only 630 metric tonnes has been unloaded.
He told that 25 trucks loaded with fertilizers are standing unloaded at Awantipora and 20 trucks at Nowgam with DAP fertilizers to be unloaded. In these days of sowing season in Jammu, there is not a single bag of DAP while buffer stock for next three months is being stored in Kashmir.
Sukhnandan Kumar disclosed that he will take up the whole matter with the State Chief Minister in next 1-2 days at Srinagar and appeal him to ensure that the problems of the farmers are mitigated. He also demanded that Jammu should get maximum quantity of fertilizers as it is sowing season here.
