History of Jammu one of continuous struggle | Discrimination | | Neha EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 26: Story of Jammu: No electricity. Payment of more power tariff; almost two times that of Kashmir. State-owned power projects in Jammu produce only less 25 MW electricity. Kashmir produces more than 30 MW. Acute unemployment problem. It's over 69 per cent in Jammu, as compared to less then 30 per cent in Kashmir. More area and more voters but less representation in the assembly. Jammu has 37 seats and Kashmir 46. Jammu has two Lok Sabha constituencies and Kashmir three. No infrastructure development. Inadequate number of districts. No drinking water. Sick industries. Sick trade. Poor communication network. Poor road connectivity. Poor civic amenities. Poor healthcare facilities and ill-equipped health centres. No tourism development. Even Patnitop is not developed. Poor educational facilities. Neglect in all spheres and at all levels. Payment of more revenue. To the tune of over 70 per cent. It's discrimination and discrimination alone. Discrimination is glaring and disparities are colossal. Dogras agitate for adequate power supply but with no result. Dogras cry for safe drinking water but with no result. Dogras ask their elected representatives to redress their grievances but with no result. Dogras hold demonstrations for obtaining justice but with no result. Rather, more and more discrimination with them. Dogras repeatedly accuse the Kashmiri leadership of rendering them unreal and ineffective but the accusations fail to move it. Their own leadership makes common cause with Kashmiri leadership and dismisses the accusations of the Dogras as ill-designed, ill-motivated and communally-motivated. Their own leadership says the accusations of the Dogras are not well-founded. It consistently says: J&K Government believes in equitable development and doesn't discriminate between them and the people of Kashmir. And, a section of Kashmiri leadership says Jammu gets more. The Dogras ask the leadership to preserve, conserve and develop river Tawi, also called Surya Putri, but the leadership talks of river Jhelum and river Liddar. The result is that Tawi is decaying and decaying very fast. The Dogras ask the leadership to preserve, conserve and develop the water bodies in Jammu like Mansar, Surinsar and Sanasar but the authorities talk about the water-bodies like Dal Lake, Whullar Lake and Nagin Lake, all in Kashmir. The result is that Mansar, Surinsar and Sanasar are decaying. Dogras accuse New Delhi of according preferential to Kashmir and ask it to pay equal attention towards them but with no result. New Delhi, like the J&K leadership, dismisses with contempt the Dogras' accusations. Rather, the vindictive New Delhi pumps into Kashmir more money. In other words, both New Delhi and the J&K leadership join hands against the Dogras and humiliate and taunt them. The history of Jammu, in short, is the history of struggle sans any meaningful victory. The history of Jammu, in short, is that the Dogras are crying and their leaders are enjoying the loaves and fishes of politics. The history of Jammu, in short, is that the Dogras are leaderless. The history of Jammu, in short, is that India became independent of the British in 1947 and Jammu became slave the same year. |
