| If NC has ignored Srinagar, where has it invested? | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 26: The General Secretary of Peoples' Democratic Party Muhammad Dilawar Mir on Saturday accused National Conference of ignoring Srinagar. Mir said that no developmental works had been undertaken in Srinagar especially in down town since 1975. "It was during PDP regime that Eidgah was fenced and decorated", he said. The condition of old city is glaring example of NC's apathy. No development has taken place in old city since 1975 except during the PDP led government. All the roads are in dilapidated condition and area gets rotational power supply in summer and winters. On rainy days the roads and lanes remain submerged for long time due to faulty drainage system," He said it was during PDP led coalition government that the flyover was constructed in record time and banks of river Jehlum were repaired and beautified and other developmental works were undertaken at a fast pace, giving whole Srinagar a new attractive look. Srinagar is believed to be a strong bastion of National Conference. During the 2008 Assembly elections, the NC bagged all the ten seats from Srinagar. And, if NC has been ignoring Srinagar then where has it undertaken development. Curiously the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram during his `joyride' around old city last week sought reasons for dilapidated roads and drains. He was told that no developmental work could be undertaken last year due to unrest. Jammu has always rejected National Conference. It is a strong hold of Congress. However, during the last elections, Congress lost some vital seats to BJP. NC is not generous enough to develop areas where its opponents live. As long as South Kashmir is concerned, the PDP has dealt a severe blow to NC. The ruling coalition partner, therefore, is not expected to develop south Kashmir either. North Kashmir towns are as shabby as the winter capital. So, where has the National Conference invested? Will the Chief Minister explain? |
