Guests leave behind "garbage" at Shankracharya, says CM | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 26: "Sad to see the amount of garbage our guests leave behind in places like Shankracharya & Pari Mahal. We love having you here but don't litter." Who has written this in his twitter? Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has written this. When did he write? He wrote two days ago? What does what the Chief Minister wrote actually mean? It means many, many things. It means the "guests" (read devotees of Lord Shiva and others who visit the Shankracharya Hill where the ancient temple of Lord Shiva is located) leave behind garbage. In other words, they make the place dirty and pollute it. It also means that those who visit Pari Mahal also do the same. They make the otherwise beautiful place dirty and pollute its otherwise salubrious environment. What exactly does he expect from the "guests" visiting Sankracharya and Pari Mahal? He wants more and more guests to visit these places so that the Kashmir's economy is enriched and the people of Kashmir earn more. At the same time, he wants the "guests" not to "litter." The Chief Minister cannot be questioned if he asks the "guests" not to "litter." His is a sane counsel to those visiting Shankracharya and Pari Mahal. It is the duty of everyone to preserve the sanctity of Shankracharya and Pari Mahal. However, what should raise eyebrows is his focus only on these two places. It would have been better had he also talked about places like Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Dal Lake. And, what about river Liddar? For, every guest who visits these tourist spots sees with his own eyes garbage and garbage at several places. "Guests" who visit these tourist spots do litter. The fact of the matter is that the moment you enter Gulmarg and Pahalgam you would find things in a mess as compared to Shankracharya, despite the fact that the government spends so much for the development of these tourist spots. Chief Minister is Chief Minister. His approach shouldn't appear lop-sided. His approach should be such that doesn't make anyone believe that he is targeting a particular place or a particular community, as Syed Ali Shah Geelani frequently does. He should also know that people do read what he writes and, hence, the need of utmost caution. People read him because he is Chief Minister and whatever he says, writes and does had its impact. It could be negative and it could also be positive depending on what he says, what he writes and what he does. Take, for example, the impact of what he did on June 11. On June 11, he posted half a dozen photographs on his twitter and one of them showed his grandfather Sheikh Abdullah sitting on a sofa and rulers of the state Maharaja Pratap Singh and Hari Singh and one Maharani on the mat. |
