Peace, calm must for development: Dr Abdullah | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, June 27 (KNS): National Conference patron and Union Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah Monday said that peace and calm was important to promote tourism industry in Jammu and Kashmir. He said livelihood of lakhs of people was dependent on tourism. “Tourism benefits a large number of people. In order to make this industry successful it is important to maintain peace and calm in the state,” he said. The NC patron said that Kashmiris had been always warm-hearted in welcoming the tourists. “I hope they continue to do so,” he said. Emphasizing the positive impact of tourism, he said, people have to play a positive role in continuing its success. “Large number of houseboat owners, hotel owners, craftsmen and other businessmen who are closely related with the industry get benefited and it is their responsibility to strengthen it further.” He said last year state suffered huge losses due to summer unrest. “The state is heralding a new period of development and construction and it is important to maintain peace to realize these plans,” he added. Dr Abdullah said that government had taken concrete steps to better the economic conditions, tourism industry and other sectors in the state.
