Early times report
Jammu, jun 27: Besides the developmental activities on its peak in Kishtwar, parts of the town is facing acute water scarcity which lead to multiple problems for the local populace which has been left high and dry by the administration. The story of village Nagni which comprises of more than 650 souls lies in the Hidyal panchayat facing acute shortage of water supply from last few years.
Besides the timely snow fall and rain in the last few year the government is still unable to negotiate this problem. The local populace on regularity basis used to visit the office of the PHE department in individuals and some time in groups in order that the concerned department may sort out some type relief for them.
Despite the fact that the village Nagni is situated only 3-4 kilometer from the District Headquarter Kishtwar and also the office of PHE division Kishtwar situated inside the said panchayat still there is no sigh of relief for the locals. People alleged that they are facing this problem due to illegal connections in the gravity line as well as in the main lines which reduces the pressure of the main lines. A local resident of the area said to our reporter that the water supply is being provided to them in alternate days and it lasts only for half an hour.
When contacted to Shahnawaz Husain Mir, concerned officer about the matter he told to our reporter that this part of the Kishtwar is located at the tail end of the city and further added that population of the city is twice to the availability of drinking water and due to this reason we are not able to provide the sufficient amount of water supply. We might be able to provide sufficient amount of water supply to the locals with in a month. We are arranging about 4 lakh gallons of drinking water from Shalimar with the collaboration of NHPC. This step will enhance us in bringing the requirement and the availability of water in the balance.
