JMC continues drive against adulteration | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 27: Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) alongwith team of food inspectors continued drive to check the quality of food items especially on the forthcoming Amar Nath Ji Yatra and inspected about 130 food establishments like cooked food Dabas, milk & milk products shops / vendors, restaurants, fruit juice shops, tea stalls, sweet shops, bakery shops, cut fruits reharies, ice cream shops, sugarcane juice reharies in the areas of New Rehari, Rehari Colony, Subash Nagar, Bakshi Nagar, Akhnoor Road, Bhagwati Nagar, Puran Nagar, Yatri Bhawan etc. During the inspection 21 defaulters were booked under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. An amount of Rs. 5500 was charged as fine from the defaulters and about 80 kgs of sweets, stale cooked food, ice cream and about 10 Kgs of cut fruit which were not fit for human consumption were destroyed on spot. The team also seized polythene carry bags from various food establishments / other out lets who were using the ploythene carry bags in these areas. Besides this, the enforcement staff led by the Chief Enforcement Officer alongwith police force continued the drive to clear the footpaths / pavements and part of road sides etc in the areas of Bikram Chowk, Jewel Area, Canal Road etc. During the drive the goods /articles like drums, crates, umbrellas, bundles of sugar canes, vegetables, fruits, soda water, sign boards etc which were kept by shopkeepers/ vendors on the footpaths, pavements and parts of roads in these areas were seized. The team also seized the polythene carry bags from the shopkeepers / vendors in these areas and to the tune of 200 kgs.
