Pre-monsoon showers exposed claims of authorities | PDP demands probe into functioning of ERA | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 27: Expressing serious concern over deplorable condition of sewerage system in the city and outskirts, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that pre-monsoon showers have exposed tall claims of the authorities . In a joint statement issued here today, senior PDP pointed out crores and crores of rupees have been spent to improve sewerage system in the old city but the system has further deteriorated due to mis-management and bungling in the funds. Party regretted that entire city has been choked after first down pours and most parts of the outer city have been flooded due to over-flowing of water from the nullahs. The way pre-monsoon showers have halted normal life in the city exposed that tall claims of the authorities are confined only on papers. They said that projects completed only on papers while as on ground problems of the people are increased manifolds. Pointing towards chocked drainage system in the old city, PDP leaders said that projects started by the ERA have further compounded woes of the inhabitants of Jammu city. They said that instead of properly utilizing the funds allotted to the ERA, the concerned authorities have spent these funds of purchasing vehicles and accommodate luxuries for them in their offices. They said that ERA has dug most parts of the old city during the last more a two years but no step has been taken so far repair the streets. Not only drainage system has been choked even passing through the streets of old city is not possible due to digging of the streets by the ERA authorities. Senior PDP leaders demanded a probe into the funds allotted to the ERA by the government. They asked the government to conduct an inquiry how funds are being mis-utilized by the ERA authorities as most of the projects being taken by the ERA are still incomplete despite pumping of huge funds. PDP leaders further pointed out that on papers ERA has spent huge amount to improve water supply in the city but on ground most parts of the city have been confronting with the problems of the acute scarcity of drinking water. Despite spending of crores and crores of rupees, waters supply system has not improved in the city.
