PSC decision added undue hardships, inconvenience to Jammu Youth: Harsh Dev Singh | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 27: Harsh Dev Singh NPP MLA and its working chairman has scolded the Public Service Commission for summoning all the shortlisted candidates for KAS to Srinagar for the purpose of interviews commencing from first week of July. He said that the move of PSC was in contravention of the established norms and already prevalent practice of holding interviews /viva at both Jammu and Srinagar as per the convenience and residential particulars of the qualifying candidates. He said that the PSC decision was not only irrational and motivated but would also cause undue hardships, inconvenience to Jammu youth besides having a cascading effect on their morals. He said that difficulties of the Jammu candidates would further get aggravated due to heavy rush of tourists in Srinagar and also the Pilgrims of Amarnath yatra due to simultaneous start of Amarnath yatra. He demanded immediate review of the decision, holding of interviews at both Jammu and Srinagar as per past practice. He further demanded the conducting of interviews after filling up the vacancies caused due to retirement of Jammu based members of PSC. Pointing further towards a legal aspect, Harsh Dev Singh questioned the credibility and authenticity of the selection process being initiated by the Public Service Commission for KAS in spite of several vacancies existing in the commission due to retirement of members. He said that the sections conducted are required to be approved by the full commission which consists of nine members. He said that SRO 52 of 2007 stipulates that the commission shall compose of one Chairman and Eight members. He said that presently there are at least three vacancies in the commission with two members from Jammu region having retired only recently and no substitute having been provided. He said that with Jammu region having been deprived of its due share in the membership of Public Service Commission and existing Jammu members having retired, the apprehensions in the minds of Jammu youth of neglect and deprivation appeared to be genuine. He said that the unemployed youth pointed out on scores of occasions where selections of favorites, relatives, wards and other blue eyed candidates have been made by PSC members in violation of all norms, stipulated criteria and in contravention of principals of natural justice. Urging the immediate filling up of vacancies of Jammu region in the Public Service Commission, Harsh Dev Singh called for justice to the unemployed youth of all regions and compensating the Jammu youth for their neglect in various selections processes in the past. He urged upon the Governor to personally intervene so as to address the genuine concerns of youth of Jammu region.
