DGP appreciates ‘extra ordinary contribution’ of Scouts, Guides for human cause | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, June 26 (KNS): Director General of Police, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda today appreciated the distinguished contribution of J&K Scouts and Guides affiliated with All India Boys Scouts, saying the dynamic cadre has to play vital role in protection of environment and regaining cultural glory of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the Chief Commissioner, J&K Scouts, Kh. Renzushah has been instrumental in pioneering J&K Scouts and Guides movement, making it one of the most disciplined youth cadre devoted to voluntary service and human cause. Khoda said that the noble movement was founded as per the principles conceived by Lord Baden Powell in 1907. The youth associated with this movement work for promotion of universal brotherhood and communal amity. Khoda said that JKP is keen to channelize energy of youth towards a positive direction and the organisation is on the forefront to promote the constructive activities of the younger generation. He said that the department has established youth clubs and community centres throughout the State to promote unity and discipline among the youth. He said there is a large scope to work in the field of social service and it is the need of the time that the youth of the State should come forward and work for the service of the humanity. The DGP said that every possible help would be provided to the J & K chapter of scouts and guides for promotion of its activities. He emphasised that all educational institutions should be brought under this movement to create sense of social service among the youth. Khoda, while detailing the activities of JKP under its Civic Action Programme said that the organisation undertook various schemes during the previous year which include establishment of de-addition centres, treating 3500 patients, relief operation in Leh calamity, Vocational training centres for BPL category and militancy effected families, free medical camps at Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Srinagar, educational assistance to BPL students, dinning hall for Old Age Home at Udhampur, Educational tour for Poonch students, assistance in marriage of orphan girls at Reasi and Udhampur, establishment of public libraries and construction of mini-stadium at various district Headquarters. He said that the organisation would continue its efforts under the programme to provide assistance to the youth and the needy people. The organisation is intending to provide artificial limbs to the violence victims and ambulances for remote and inaccessible areas of the State. On this occasion, Khoda handed over a complete set of band items amounting to Rs 3 lakhs to the Chief Commissioner, Scouts and Guides for promotion of its activities in the State which was announced at a function held at Jammu in Feb this year. Mr. Renzu thanked the DGP for providing such support and assistance. He said that this is an endeavour to encourage the J&K Chapter to work further for nation building by motivating the youth to espouse the duties of scouts and guides. Among others, the function was attended by Additional Directors General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar, Dr. Ram Lubhaya and Naveen Aggerwal, Inspectors General of Police, Farooq Ahmed and Rauf-ul-Hassan ,Deputy Inspectors General of Police, A. Q. Manhas, T. Namgiyal and Vijay Kumar. SSPs, Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, Raif-ul-Hassan, Deputy Chief Commissioner, Mr. Chuni and Commandants of IR/IRP valley based Battalions and large number of scouts and guides from Jammu and Srinagar.
