Sports activities to be enhanced: Tara Chand | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 27: Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand exhorted upon the youth to play sports which he said inculcates discipline besides enables them to stay physically and mentally fit. He said that sports activities being undertaken at various state, district, tehsil, block and ward level must be enhanced as they inculcate the spirit of belongingness, affection, community participation and further bond people with each other irrespective of cast, creed region or religion. Tara Chand was addressing a gathering of sports persons, sports lovers, prominent citizens, social activists and local residents of Mubarak Mandi area after prize distribution ceremony of late Dinu Bhai Pant Night Cricket Tournament organized by PEACE - a volunteer organization at Mubarak Mandi on Sunday evening. Narinder Sharma, President of the PEACE presided over the function. The final match was played between Peace Cricket Club and Janipur Cricket Club which was won by the former by 8 runs. Deputy Chief Minister said that involvement of youth in sports is need of hour and schools and colleges must also evaluate them on this basis of sports also. He hoped that Jammu youth with their dedication and commitment would also prove their mettle in international events. Assuring all possible help to promote sporting activities at local levels, Tara Chand said that housing and urban development ministry will make all out efforts to ensure that play grounds in the city wherever they are locate are not encroached and maintained well by the departments concerned. Narinder Sharma in his speech said that this night cricket has become a regular feature and every year the event is dedicated to a prominent personality of Jammu whose contribution in the society can never be ignored.
