Hats off to the extremist Geelani | Leaderless Dogras | | Neha EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 27: Tehrik-e-Hurriyat (TeH) leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani is an extremist, pro-Pakistan and disturber of peace. It's true. Geelani disrupts economic activities in the Kashmir Valley by enforcing shutdown at regular intervals. It's also true. It's also true that he is unreasonable, unaccommodating and anti-minorities. It's also true that he wishes to have in Kashmir a particular type of dispensation under which democracy, secularism and liberal ideas would have no place whatever and that the dispensation he has been striving to have for the people of Kashmir would be one particular sect-centric. It's true that he stands for Talibanization of Kashmir or primitive and intolerant ideology. It's true that he stands for the disintegration of India or for another communal partition. It's obvious that no person with nationalist, secular, democratic and humane outlook would ever endorse what Geelani stands for. For, what he stands for is against all the cardinal principles of humanity, the institution of state, communal harmony, peaceful co-existence of communities and so on. But everyone would appreciate his commitment to the community to which he belongs and to his supporters and followers. Hats off to Geelani, who shares the happiness and grief of his followers and supporters. Just look at what Geelani did for his followers and supporters on June 24. That day, Geelani visited the Karan Nagar police station and got three youth released. They had been arrested for raising anti-India and pro-azadi slogans. They were part of the congregation Geelani addressed. After addressing the Friday gathering, Geelani left for his Hyderpora residence. Several youth followed him and raised pro-azadi slogans. The police swung into action and reportedly arrested three of them. Geelani came to know about the arrest after he reached his residence. He immediately acted. He reached the Karan Nagar police station, sat there for almost 60 minutes and discussed the whole issue with the concerned SHO, who reportedly handed over the three youth to the separatist leader." According to Deputy Inspector General, Central Kashmir Range, Abdul Gani Mir, "the three youth were detained under 107 CRPC" and "Geelani came and got them released after he gave a written surety bond." Compare the Dogra leadership with the leadership of Geelani and see for yourself the difference. Why comparison with Geelani alone? All other Kashmiri leaders, without any exception, behave like Geelani and act whenever the Kashmiri youth suffer at the hands of the law and order authorities. That's the reason that the Kashmiri youth feel protected. Can anyone in Jammu imagine that any of the Dogra leaders belonging to the Jammu-based parties, including Congress and BJP, would go to a police station to get the arrested youth released? No one will ever imagine any of the Dogra leaders visiting any of the police stations in Jammu to get the arrested youth released. On the contrary, the bulk of the Dogra leadership would condemn in its heart of hearts the arrested youth believing that the arrested youth might have taken the law of the land into their hands. In other words, it would condemn the arrested youth unheard. It may even make common cause with the Kashmiri leadership. One can refer to here several instances to show a section of Jammu leadership doing its best to defeat the agitating Jammu youth. The fact of the matter is that the Jammu leadership has never made common cause with the Dogra youth even if their cause is genuine and even if they protest their exclusion from the service sector and educational institutions. With the result, the youth of Jammu has been feeling frustrated. They need a leader like Geelani who could take up their genuine cause and protect them against the policy of exclusion and persecution. But will they get a leader like Geelani who would, instead of promoting the Pakistani cause and extremism, promote the Indian cause in the state and fight for the youth of Jammu? The answer as of now appears to be a big NO. For, the bulk of Dogra leadership is contented with the politics of personal profit in has been indulging in since decades. |
