CPI (M) calls for mass movement against corruption | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 28: Jammu and Kashmir unit of CPI (M), Tuesday called for mass movement to take on the menace of corruption which it said had has afflicted every sphere of politico-administrative set up in the State.The State Secretary CPI (M) and MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami, who started his campaign in south Kashmir against corruption said, “It (corruption) has been institutionalized so much that it has gained legitimacy with opportunist officials enjoying patronage to the detriment of the poor and under privileged.” Coming down heavily on the government for poor implementation of NREGA, the legislator regretted that delay in the execution of the flagship programme this fiscal is hitting the poor. He said the programme is aimed at providing livelihood security to the poor, who he said are not able to get their assured wages due to non- starting of works despite elapse of half year. Tarigami alleged that NREGA programme had been hijacked by the contractors that has led to irregularities of unforeseen sorts, adding that unholy nexus developed by some Rural Development officials with contractors has to be broken in right earnest to salvage the poor. Earlier, hundreds of CPI (M) activists took to streets demanding fair and transparent implementation of NREGA and easy availability of ration. They also held a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner office to press for their rights. (KNS)
